From the World Future Society Conference: July 17-19, 2009
1) Wisdom no longer will be based on traditional knowledge and experience only, but will reflect the ability of individuals to anticipate newly emerging patterns, connect disparate ideas and understand how to help others adapt to a constant changing future.
2) For the first time in human history, children are authorities on a central innovation – the new digital media. This generation gap has its implications.
3) Universal connectivity is making us all “parallel processors” and multi-taskers, while the Internet is inundating our decisions with massive amounts of data. Will our increasingly complicated decisions ultimately have to be made for us by computer algorithms and intelligent systems?
4) The future of universities will depend on their ability to develop knowledge creators. As the communication of knowledge flows around the world, any job that does not require proximity can be outsourced.
5) The invention of Facilitated Thinking Environments (FTEs) and cognitive tools called “thinklets” will improve the productivity of knowledge workers in a Creative Molecular Economy.
