'Developing a Future Forward Workforce for Three Economies in Churn'

THE WFS 2010 Conference, “Sustainable Futures, Strategies, and Technologies” will be held at Westin Boston Waterfront, Boston, Massachusettsat, July 8-10 and CoTF President Rick Smyre will be among the speakers tackling the issues around 'Developing a Future Forward Workforce for Three Economies in Churn' tackling the issues around 'Developing a Future Forward Workforce for Three Economies in Churn'.

He says: One of the greatest challenges for local communities is to help prepare a workforce that has the capacities to be effective in an economic environment where, for the first time in history, there are three different types of economies integrated at one time … the last of the Industrial Age, a transition time called the Knowledge Society from 2000 to 2025, and the emergence of a Creative Molecular Economy as a part of an Organic Age, whose institutions will be very differently organized around interlocking networks and not hierarchies.

This session is designed to introduce participants to the concept of a Future Forward Workforce and the diverse capacities, capabilities and skills that a local workforce will need, especially to develop the capacity to have imagination, intuition and insight … the basic tools for a resilient workforce able to support continuous innovation.

Who should attend: Economic developers, community leaders, educators, elected officials, community and state planning consultants, chamber of commerce executives, and anyone interested in how to prepare communities for a workforce able to compete in a 21st Century economy where ability to adapt to change is key.

What you'll learn: Three key ideas:

  1. concepts and methods of seeding capacities for a Future Forward Workforce (FFW) that will help transform ways communities prepare for a different kind of economic future,
  2. leadership methods of a Master Capacity Builder needed to facilitate a FFW
  3. examples from emerging experiences (as appropriate) of those involved beginning to design and use this new approach to workforce development.
