A message from Rick Smyre
As a result of your previous interest in our Communities of the Future work in seeding ideas and methods for community transformation, thought you would be interested in two ideas that have recently resulted from our collaboration in Fayette County, GA and elsewhere.
The concept of Mobile Governance is one that we have developed over the past year. Last week, the web journal of the World Future Society, www.FUTUREtakes.com, published an article, The Weak Signals of Mobile Governance, that I coauthored with a colleague, Norma Owen, President of Avadon, LLC in Dallas, TX.
If interested, you can read the article at: http://www.futuretakes.org/issues/fall_winter2009_2010/vol8no2/article_002.html
Dewey Harris, Asst County Manager from Catawba County, NC and I have been asked to present the concept of Mobile Governance at the alumni conclave at the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia.
In addition, attached is a new project (Arts Expo) that emerged from our work in Fayette County, GA to develop a core group of Transformational Leaders (that we call Master Capacity Builders). This project is a collaboration between the Rotary Club and the Fayette Chamber of Commerce.
I am especially pleased with this idea because it emerged from the "futures generative dialogue" of a number of different people and organizations in Fayette County, and is a wonderful, tangible outcome of the application of the principle of emergence within a "futures context."
It is a great way to utilize the interest of existing organizations to adapt their program of work in ways that will prepare their community for a different kind of future ... and, in this case, the contest makes it fun for students, parents and citizens at the same time.
Thanks again for your interest in our COTF work over the years. Many of our key ideas ( Master Capacity Builder, Transformational Learning, Interlocking Networks, Future Forward Workforce and Creative Molecular Economy) are now gaining traction as more and more local leaders realize that refining traditional ideas will not be successful in a time of true historical transformation.
Let me know any thoughts or questions you may have.

All my best. Rick
