The Healing Rooms movement in Scotland
The Healing Rooms movement is making miracles and every day event in the US as well as in Scotland.
This story is from Scotland
A HELENSBURGH woman who suffered for two years with leg ulcers visited Helensburgh’s Healing Room and within two months the ulcers had completely vanished.
“It was a miracle for me,” she said, “and the medical staff all said it was a miracle too.”
She continued: “I had been getting the ulcers dressed twice a week for two years because I am blind and couldn’t touch them myself and I finally decided to go to the Healing Room to ask them for help and within two months the ulcers were all gone.
“Some people scoff at the ideal of Spiritual healing but I have always believed in it. The only thing is that you have to accept the time it takes to work is not in your control.”
Helensburgh’s Healing Room which opens at Park Church every Monday but which is run by a group of people from a wide range of town churches, is one of a chain of such oases of hope springing up in towns and villages all over Scotland.
It is run by local directors Helen and Neil Turnbull who head a team of 17 volunteers who have been fully trained by the parent organisation, Healing Rooms Scotland.
Healing Rooms Scotland was set up in 2004 by Steven and Helen Anderson who trained in America and who now directly oversee the Glasgow rooms and give direction to the rooms operating throughout Scotland, conducting regular training courses across the nation.
Helen and Neil both felt a call to healing when they attended a CLAN (Christians Linked Across the Nation) event at St Andrews.
Helen who is a trained nurse felt the need to take her work found herself drawn forward to pray for those who had need of prayer and Neil when he was drawn forward to be prayed for having suffered pain for six years.
While the prayer was going on he felt himself fall backwards and when he came round he was pain free.
Together the couple attended a seminar and decided to go for training at the Healing Rooms base in Cathcart.
They called a meeting for anyone interested in helping and the Healing Room became a fact with a core of 20 volunteers and the support of a board of advisers of local ministers, the Rev Adam Plenderleith, the Rev George Vidits, the Rev Gavin McFadyen and the Rev Alistair Duncan.
The doors opened almost a year ago and every Monday from 8pm to 9pm various members of the group meet to pray and to help those who come along to them for their intercession.
The group meets for an hour of intercession before the doors open and each person who comes along will work with three of the volunteers.
They occasionally use aromatherapy oil for a blessing and sometimes one of the group is moved to a laying on of hands but only if the client has given permission for that. Each member of the group prays in their own way as the spirit takes them but they are absolutely adamant that none of them is a healer that they only allow the Holy Spirit to work through them.
The group are quite clear that no-one coming to them is to stop taking any prescribed medicines without consulting their doctor but they have had a fine record of success with many coming back to them for their help.
The number of visits is determined by the need and by the person who comes along. Some come more than once and some elect for a “deeper healing”.
Deeper Healing is appointment based which gives time to get to the root of issues. This may take an hour, perhaps two if necessary. Our teams are fully trained and appointments are completely confidential.
To receive the greatest benefit from a Deeper Healing appointment it's recommended that the client comes after a normal Healing Room meeting. The Director of that room will advise if they think a person might benefit from a Deeper Healing session.
Deeper Healing is different from a normal Healing Rooms visit where you simply turn up while the rooms are open, fill in a form and wait for a team to pray with you immediately.People often come to Deeper Healing in need of healing from past wounding or trauma. Others may need help with a particular issue, eg anger. Sometimes people simply feel spiritually "stuck" and need help to move on.
So of you have something that is troubling you why not try the Healing Rooms?
The team are committed Christians from a variety of congregations but they don’t push the Bible or even question their clients’ own beliefs or faith. They simply listen to the person’s needs and then pray for God’s help for them.
If you would like to know more about Healing Rooms or are interested in becoming a volunteer then you too can pop in on Monday night and meet the group and talk to them. Tea and coffee are always on offer together with a very warm welcome for everyone.
The group would like to thank Park Church for the generosity in giving them the use of the rooms which have made it possible to begin the healing ministry but they are looking for a new venue as soon as funds permit and there are more volunteers to allow the rooms to open more than just one evening a week.
